welcome to our website. York Spiritualist Centre, (YSC), welcomes everyone to its services and
advertised events, regardless of their religious belief or spiritual
orientation. The Centre is affiliated to the Spiritualist National
Union, (SNU), and is a registered charity:-
Registered Charity Number: 261898.
The sections of this and every page are listed under "Page Links" at the top of the right-hand column. Please use the links there to navigate directly to the section you wish to read.
The Centre exists to give evidence of the continuity of consciousness and life beyond the death of the physical body, to demonstrate over time all forms of mediumship, to offer services, healing evenings, courses and workshops which are open to all, to be a meeting place for people of like mind and spiritual direction, to assist spiritual growth and understanding, to offer spiritual healing to those who ask for it, to help develop and support the intuitive, psychic and mediumistic abilities that all people have, though to different degrees, and to help train up a new generation of mediums and spiritual healers. You can find us at:
7-9 Wilton Rise
(off Holgate Road)
Please click the "Contact" link above for further contact details and links to maps showing how to find us.
Services, the Healing Group meetings, Open Circles and the Development Circle are on each week, except during the Christmas/New Year holiday period, when the Centre is shut. Everyone is welcome to these events. No booking required.

The Centre holds a Divine Service
each Sunday at 6:30pm, except during the Christmas/New Year
period. Each service is taken by a medium accredited by the SNU, or
other creditable Spiritualist organisation. You can
find a list of this year's visiting mediums by clicking the "Events"
link above. More information about what first-time visitors can expect
at our services can be found by clicking the "About" link above. All
visitors to our centre are welcome to stay after the service for coffee, tea,
or a herbal tea, and a biscuit, to chat with serving officers of
the Centre, or other members. This is encouraged as a very good way of
finding out more about us, about Spiritualism generally, and how we and
Spiritualism can help and serve you.
|On the last Sunday of every month there is a small charge, payable at the door, of £2.00 for everyone, for a slightly longer 'Demonstration of Mediumship'.|
At all other Sunday services a free-will collection is taken. The Centre also supplements its funds by holding a raffle at the end of each Sunday service. Members and regular visitors are invited to donate good quality unwanted gifts suitable to be used as raffle prizes.
Our website is still under construction. (Is a website ever finished?) Essential information is of course here, and much more besides! New pages are being added at regular intervals.
New prayers added to the prayers page in the Writings section.
New poems added to the poetry page in the Writings section.
Changes made to the relevant pages to detail the changes in the times and format of the Open Circles and the Development Circle starting the week beginning 25/11/12. See entry below, but particularly the Circles & Development page.
Psychic News returns. See News Section below.
Item on the new "Arthur Conan Doyle Centre" in Edinburgh added to 'The News Section' on this page.
Page on Near-Death Experiences in the More section updated.
New informational material added to the Spiritualist Magazines & Papers page.
Space for a "More" section has been created. It replaces the Guestbook section, which never worked properly. At the moment, the new section is empty of content, but it is hoped, as time allows, to present here content on the sort of evidence which adds weight to the claims of Spiritualism, but is not generally investigated by Spiritualist Churches and Centres - e.g. Near Death Experiences, Out of Body Experiences, Lucid Dreams, Deathbed Visions, Remote Viewing, Psychic Detective Work, etc. It will also be a miscellaneous section where things which don't fit comfortably into other sections will be placed.
A "News" section was added to the bottom of this page.
Spiritual healing is
available to anyone who requires it on
after the service at 8pm, and at the Tuesday evening meetings of the 'Healing Group' which begin
at 7:30pm. Further information
on Spiritual Healing, the Healing Group, and what to expect in a
healing session can be found on the "Healing" front page.

We have two opportunities each week for people who want to attend an Open Circle. On Monday we have our Daytime Open Circle from 2:00pm to 3:30pm run by Avril.
From 7.00pm, on Wednesday we have an evening DEVELOPMENT Circle run by Garry, which will offer a deeper learning experience.
For detailed information about the Open Circles and Development Circles in a Spiritualist setting, please click here for the "About" page, where you should find your questions answered. If not, you may discuss them with any Committee member after the Divine Service on Sunday evening or telephone the secretary. We are always looking at new ways of enabling mediumistic progression and we hope that these Circles will be well supported.
Everyone is welcome to attend. We have to make a small charge to cover our expenses.
Please click here for more information on charges.
The Centre runs many courses and workshops. These are designed to help train and develop psychic awareness and mediumistic ability. Introductory information about these can now be found on the 'About' section 'Introduction' page. To access this, please click here.
Alternatively, to find out what Courses and workshops are coming up, please click here to go to the relevant section on the 'Events' page.
The centre gives an opportunity each month for trainee mediums, who have been practising in our open circles and attending courses and workshops, to gain experience working on the platform.
This occasion is on the last Sunday of each month after the service at about 8pm, when visitors are welcome to stay behind to give moral support, and perhaps receive a message.
We have included some photos of the Centre on
the Photos page,
accessed by clicking the "Photos" link above.
If you click the "History" link above, you will find some information about the history of Spiritualism generally and the history of Spiritualism in York.
The Glossary page defines terms which you will often meet in reading about Spiritualism. Click the link for "Glossary" in the menu bar. It is intended to have a page for frequently asked questions, (FAQs), which will be accessible from the Glossary page.
You will find a comprehensive links section on the "Links" pages, which you can access from the "Links" button on the menu-bar. On these pages space permits a short description of each linked page or website.
The "Guest Book" never worked well and has been replaced by the "More" section. This section covers topics, which although a not a part of Spiritualism as such, neverthelsss have a very great relevance to it. Topics such as Near-Death Experiences (NDEs), Out of Body Experiences (OBEs) and Death-Bed Visions will be covered.
On each page, in the top
right hand column, you will find a list of "Page Links", which is there
your convenience. Clicking a link there will take you straight to the
section you wish to view of the page you are currently looking at.
Underneath the "Page Links" list, you may find a "Site Links" list and/or a "Web Links" list. "Site Links" take you directly to relevant sections on this website. "Web Links" take you directly to another website's page, which relates to the page you are viewing.
The Committee of York Spiritualist Centre hopes you will find this website informative and interesting, but we shall be happy to answer any further questions you may have. If you come to our centre after viewing these webpages, please make that known to us, when we shall be pleased to welcome you here too.
Visitors who have been attending the centre for
a while may feel
they would like to become members. It is an SNU requirement that people
spend a minimum period of 6 months as an associate member before they can
become full members. The minimum age for membership is 16, and the minimum age for associate-membership is 14.
Both associate members and full members benefit from a small reduction in the charges for open circles, courses and workshops.
The cost of associate membership is £5.00 for each 6 month period, or part of a 6 month period. The cost of full membership is £10.00 for one calendar year. Membership fees fall due on the 1st January each year. Full members may nominate and vote for committee members at the AGM. Those who feel that they would like to become associate members should approach the Secretary.

The Blackpool mediums, Jeanette & Colin Greenough, who did a special mediumship demonstration for us on April 2nd 2011, have a new website for their Rose Wing Spiritual Centre.
Check it out at: http://spiritual.rosewing.co.uk/

They also have a separate website for hotel bookings, for those who would like a friendly stay in Blackpool, but who don't want to be involved with a Spiritualism course.
You can access this at: http://hotel.rosewing.co.uk/
Arthur Conan Doyle Centre, Edinburgh
The SNU Trust have funded a new Spiritualist venue in Edinburgh called appropriately the Arthur Conan Doyle Centre. Spiritualists will know that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was, as well as being a writer of distinction, a prominent and campaigning Spiritualist, who was born in Edinburgh and began his career there.
Opened at the end of October 2011, the Centre is situated in Palmerston Place next to St Mary's Cathedral, in the heart of Edinburgh's attractive West End. It is administered by "The Palmerston Trust" a registered charity in Scotland, and has also become the new home of the Edinburgh Association of Spiritualists, who formerly met in Morrison Street.
From their website: (Click here to go to it)
"The Centre provides excellent learning facilities for all to have the opportunity to participate in a varied programme of workshop, seminars and worship in a comfortable and inviting venue.
The Centre is developing a full programme of quality training courses. Our programme shows those courses already available for 2012.
To preserve the quality of all our workshops, numbers are strictly limited and we only use the best tutors nationally and internationally.
Our courses fill up very quickly, so book early to avoid disappointment!"
Certainly an alternative venue, York people might also find the Arthur Conan Doyle Centre in Edinburgh more easily accessible than the Arthur Findlay College at Stansted in Essex.
Psychic News Returns
Those who lamented the demise of the flagship Spiritualist newspaper in 2010 need sigh no more. Thanks to the support of the JV Trust, the new owners of the paper, who wish to keep it as an independent voice of Spiritualism, Psychic News has been reincarnated as a fortnightly newspaper. It will also be available as a pdf file, which you can download to your computer.
From the "Spirit of PN" website:
"The new-format Psychic News was launched on 15th December and will be published fortnightly.
You’ll be able to choose from printed and internet versions and you can subscribe for either 6 months or 12.
We’re thrilled to be able to offer you the new fortnightly Psychic News at £1.40 per single issue, which works out at exactly the same price as the 70p you used to pay weekly.
A subscription to the printed copy costs £48 for a year, or £25 for 6 months. To pay by credit or debit card call Alita McGuiness on 01279 874341.
If you prefer to pay by cheque, make it payable to “Psychic Press Ltd” and send it with your name and address to Psychic News, Suite 6, Thremhall Park, Start Hill, Bishops Stortford CM22 7WE.
A year’s subscription to the online version costs just £26, or £14 for 6 months. If you’d like to subscribe online, simply visit www.psychicnews.org.uk and follow the on-screen instructions.
