Our Green Leaflet on Spiritual Healing
This is the text of the green leaflet about Spiritual Healing that is available at York Spiritualist Centre.
Introduction
York Spiritualist Centre is a member of the Spiritualist National Union. It was founded in 1899, and has always had a Spiritual Healing Group as part of its organisation.
Today's healers are drawn from all walks of life, but they share a common bond in their concern for the welfare of this planet and its inhabitants. Healing mediumship is a gift, and, like all of the spiritual gifts, it needs to be trained and practised to be perfected. This training takes place within the Centre and through the national organisation. All healers become accredited through a minimum two-year healing programme, in which they are expected to fulfil the required practice hours, demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the process, the philosophy of spiritual healing, and accept and incorporate into their practice the code of conduct devised by the Spiritualist National Union.

What is Spiritual Healing?
For Spiritualists, healing uses the forces or energies from the world of spirit, channelled through the healing medium by the laying of hands on or near the body, or by the direction of thought from a distance. (This latter is known as 'absent healing' or 'distant healing').
The experience of receiving healing is different for everybody. Most people will feel more relaxed and enjoy the experience. They may feel re-energised, or feel the energy in the form of heat or cold during the session.
The effect of healing again varies from person to person. Pain may diminish, symptoms may reduce or disappear. Although a cure cannot be guaranteed, it is unusual for healing not be helpful in some way.
There are no side effects to this treatment. It is not offered as an alternative to orthodox medicine, but is complementary to it. People who are under medical care should always continue with any treatments their doctor has prescribed.
Remember, illness does not arrive overnight. It is usually something that has developed within your body over a period of time, unless there has been a sudden trauma. Healing may take some time. Sometimes a few sessions are sufficient, but often many are required and the benefits emerge gradually.

Distant Healing
If a person cannot be present but requires healing, the Healing Group at York Spiritualist Centre will request healing be given by those of the Spirit World. Anybody can request healing be sent to another, and a 'Healing Book' is held to note down the names of those you wish healing to be sent to. Alternatively you can place their name upon the healing tree at York Spiritualist Centre.

The Healing Evening
The Healing Evening, (on a Tuesday at 7:30pm), has several parts to it:
We begin by welcoming everybody and using an opening invocation or prayer to welcome those from the spirit side of life.We then have a relaxation session led by some of the team. This gives everybody the chance to put to one side their daily life and for the healing team to attune to the healing energies.
This is followed by sending absent healing. Everyone is invited to join in naming people to whom they wish to send healing. Then healing is sent to all those listed in the Healing Book, and the names of those listed in the Healing Book during the current month are read out.
You are then invited to receive Contact Healing.
The session is closed with a prayer. You can then stay for a chat over coffee / tea / herbal tea and biscuits.
