Maureen has kindly allowed us to display some poems from her booklet 'Red Wing's Words'.
She writes: "I am a Spiritualist. I am a trainee healer and I sit in circle to develop my mediumship.
I am interested in antiques and collectables. I write stories and poetry. Mostly they are inspired by my Spirit Guide 'Red Wing' of the Lakota Oglala Sioux."

Song of Peace
Open your mind to touch me,
Feel the beating of my heart.
Touch my soul, feel my pride,
Taste the many tears I've cried.
Why should we let hatred win
Just because of the colour of our skin?
Just like you I feel a hunger,
Feel the yearning in my heart.
Reach inside and feel my need,
Just like you, I, too, can bleed.
Crush me and I too will break.
Hurt me and my heart will ache.
So come together all you nations
Sing the freedom song
United we'll build a better world,
Where all mankind belong.
Open your heart to know me,
Feel the flesh upon my bones,
Listen to know the me inside
Love can cross the great divide.
Travel through my spiritual mind,
You might like what you find.
Just like you I need protection,
Feel the fear that hides within.
Reach out now and hold my hand,
Together we must make a stand.
Don't let racial hatred burn,
If we want peace, we need to learn.
So come together all you nations
Sing the freedom song
United we'll build a better world,
Where all mankind belong.

Great Spirit Be My Guide
Oh Great Spirt guide my hand,
Teach my heart to understand.
Shine your light into my soul,
Illuminate me to my spiritual role.
I am open, I am waiting,
Filled with trust, no hesitating,
Fuelled by love my soul ascends,
Ready to greet our spirit friends
Ready to give their words of wisdom,
Open arms with loving welcome
I give myself, your wonders to perform,
An always with a heart that is warm.
I am humble, open, ready to be filled
A message given, a heart is stilled.
When I see the light in once saddened eyes,
I know they are filled with spiritual surprise.
Wherever you lead me is where I will go,
The more that I follow, the more I will grow,
The more that I grow, the more I will know,
The more that I know, the more I can show.

Love Is
Love is the answer,
Love is the key,
Love has the power
To set the world free
Love brings understanding,
And peace into your heart.
It fills you up with sunshine,
So happiness you'll impart.
Let love be your guidance,
As life's path you take,
And you'll be delighted,
As true friends you'll make.
Love brings us healing,
So don't keep it inside.
Set your heart free,
And spread your love wide.
Love is in you,
Love is in me,
Love is the answer
To life's mystery.

War Child
Hear them crying in the street
As they take away their dead.
See the children's ashen faces
Should be safely tucked in bed.
No time for childish daydreams,
When war dictates your life.
No happy sounds of laughter
,
Pain cuts you like a knife.
Gone from your eyes,
That childish glint of hope.
You're struggling for survival,
Praying you will cope.
Look into the children's eyes.
Can't you see they've lost their soul?
With your greed and need for war,
Their innocence you stole.
War child -
Your face is etched with misery.
War child -
I wish that I could set you free.

Dreams Dreamer
I'm floating on a fluffy cloud,
Basking in the sun,
Dreaming of a better world
Where only good is done.
Where people love their fellow man
No matter what his race,
A world with only room for peace,
Where love is common place.
Where tribal people are left untouched
To live the life they choose.
A world where happy songs are sung,
And no-one feels the blues.
Where man with Mother Nature strolls,
United hand in hand.
And summers smell of sweet perfume,
As Mother Nature planned.
Birds in chorus sing sweet songs
From trees of lushest green
And shining vistas fill our eyes
With mysteries now unseen.
Where babies sleep in angels' wings,
As mothers gaze in wonder.
And nature's sounds fill purest air,
Inducing the spell we're under.
But alas its just a dreamer's dream
Lost within a smoke-filled haze,
Where evil deeds produced by greed
Still cloud our hapy days.
Come join me in these heavenly dreams
And help to make them true.
Then we can build a happier world
For nature, me and you.

Words
Words can make,
And words can break.
Words can cause
A heart to ache.
Words give love,
And words spread hate.
Words can even
Seal your fate.
Words can rouse
And Words can jade.
Words can be sharper
Than a blade.
Words can hurt
And words can heal.
With words we express
The way we feel.
Words give hope,
Or push you under.
Words can tear
The heart asunder.
Use them wisely,
Use them fair.
Use them to show
The world you care.

Whispers on the Wind
Hear the whispers on the wind
That blows across the empty plains.
Hear the thunder of the buffalo
Where silence now remains.
Hear the guiding words of wisdom
Passed down through all the years.
Hear the pounding of my heart
And the chanting in my ears.
Hear the Spirit voices calling,
Drumming, dancing, singing praise.
Hear the murmur of contentment,
Sustained by nature's ways.
Hear the raindrops on the tipi
Glimpse the shadows of the past,
Hear the laughter of the children,
Then ask why it didn't last.
Hear the whispers on the wind
That blows across the empty plains.
Hear the thunder of the buffalo
Where silence now remains.

Pain
I want to sing some happy songs,
While dancing in the rain,
To fill me up with happiness
And take away the pain.
But pain lies deep within my heart,
And silently I weep.
Nightmares take the place of dreams
To haunt me as I sleep.
I feel the pain of peaceful nations,
Herded up like sheep.
Confined to reservations,
Making customs hard to keep.
I feel the pain of warriors
Trying hard to make a stand.
Against the deadly bullets,
And the raping of their land.
I feel the pain of mothers
As their world is torn apart,
And everything they lived for
Now a memory in their heart.
I feel the pain of fathers
Facing all that now remains,
Whispers of the grandfathers
Across the empty plains.
I feel the pain of children,
As they try to understand
Why they are not allowed to live
As the Great Spirit planned.
I feel the pain of all mankind,
Who are not allowed to be.
Everyone has the right to say
Here I am. What you see: that is me.
I want to sing some happy songs
While dancing in the rain.
Pray for peace for all mankind,
And that will ease the pain.

Before They Came
See the land, so wild, so free,
Buffalo dance upon the land,
Man does not outnumber tree,
And nature's heart we understand.
We thank Mother Earth for all she gives
And try to repay her many yields.
We feel her heart, and know she lives
We see her face in lush green fields.
Gentle warriors dance and sing.
The peace pipe is passed around,
Thanking Spirit for the good they bring,
Vowing to protect their sacred ground.
Dancing warriors, hearts of pride,
You are one with Mother Earth.
Buffalo killed for meat and hide,
Your survival is their worth.
Man walks free upon the land,
His head held high with pride,
Walks with spirits hand in hand,
At one with Nature deep inside.
And then they came with hearts of greed,
Spilling blood and tears upon our sacred land.
With pain in our heart a treaty we agreed,
Man and Mother Earth no longer hand in hand.
The more we gave, the more they wanted.
With false promises and lies they cheated.
They stole our land, our beliefs they taunted,
Until our proud souls gave in defeated.
See how the greed for material gain,
Can turn a loving world to this,
A world now ravaged by war and pain,
And left bereft of Nature's kiss.
See the land, so wild, so free,
The buffalo dance upon the land.
Buffalo does not outnumber tree,
And nature's heart we understand.
