Psychic Dreams

Since I became a Spiritualist I have had many "psychic experiences", too many to recount. In my adult life before that I had several psychic experiences, and they usually came in dreams. Now they do not, but they did then. I have heard many people say that if you keep a dream journal, when you read it back you will find that dreams have often predicted something that will happen, or they have given you advice about your life, sometimes in a coded form. I have never kept a dream journal, but I can remember clearly several of the telepathic and predictive dreams that I have had.

One of the earliest occurred soon after I married. I dreamt that my wife and I were sitting on a beach. While we were sitting there, a seagull walked up to my wife, laid its head on my wife's lap and died. When I told her about this dream the next morning, she said, "That is amazing! Yesterday I was at the Library, and while I was there I was looking at a book of photographs. One of the photographs was of a dead seagull on a beach. As you know, I have a phobia about dead birds. I forced myself to look at this photograph, even though it caused me a lot of distress. I forced myself to look at it to try to overcome my fear." I had not known this had happened, but my subconscious mind had picked up this information, and presented it to me in a dream.

On another occasion, I had a sad dream that foretold the suicide of my friend's sister's fiancé and gave the location of the tragedy too. He fell from a bridge over a railway line near Huddersfield. My dream identified this location. The tragedy happened the next morning, but wasn't reported until the day after by 'The Evening Press'. This dream also indicated some events in my friend's family at that time that I feel I should not describe. When my wife read out the account of the incident in 'The Evening Press', I was both shocked and amazed. I had known nothing, prior to my dream, about the emotional turmoil of the man who died. I was not involved with Spiritualism then, but it did convince me of the reality of psychic phenomena.

Another time I had asked a friend living over 1000 miles away in Russia who was an orthodox Christian, and who loved to embroider and crochet, to make us a Russian Orthodox cross in crochet work. She agreed to do this for us. While we were waiting for this to happen, I had a dream one night which gave me some personal information about both us and this Russian family. I was also shown in this dream a Russian mythological bird. To this day I do not know the name of this bird, but I have seen it depicted on shopping bags and elsewhere in Russia. Eventually we received the result of our friend in Russia's handiwork. It was not the crocheted Orthodox cross, that we had asked for, but a piece of embroidery, depicting the same mythological Russian bird that I had seen in my dream. Another uncanny thing was that I had the dream the same night as she stayed up late in Russia writing to us, but I didn't discover this until some time later when we received her letter.
